Outcome of the Special Patron Program and requested by a Veteran Patron, Mr. Daniel Barrett: presenting the Shelby Chrysler Dodge Omni GLHS - Goes Like Hell S'more.

In 1986, my birth year, the GLH received a transformation under the guidance of Carroll Shelby. Shelby Automobiles in Whittier, California, planned to produce some 500 GLHSs, sold through select Dodge dealers who signed up for Shelby franchises.

The transformation from the 146-hp GLH to the 175-hp GLHS includes the addition of an air-to-air intercooler and a Shelby-designed intake manifold to the 2.2-liter Turbo II engine. This modification allows for a 12-psi maximum boost pressure, resulting in a torque peak increase from 168 to 175 pound-feet.

Additional modifications feature the installation of low-pressure gas-charged Koni shocks and an upgrade in tires from 195/50HR-15 Eagle GTs to 205/50VR-15 Eagle VR50 gatorbacks. The rear ride height is reduced by about half an inch. The Shelby treatment also includes a tape package (removable) and six-inch cast-aluminum Shelby Centurion wheels.
