GTA 5 Redux — A Total Transformation of Grand Theft Auto V
GTA 5 Redux is one of the most ambitious overhaul mods ever created for Grand Theft Auto V, going far beyond simple graphics enhancements. Redux completely transforms the game's visual presentation, weather systems, vehicle handling, weapon mechanics, police AI, and ambient world behavior. It's essentially a comprehensive remaster that touches nearly every aspect of the game, making it feel like a significantly upgraded version of GTA 5 rather than a simple mod.
Graphics Enhancements
Redux's visual improvements are immediately noticeable. The mod introduces 4K-quality textures for roads, buildings, vegetation, and vehicles, replacing the often blurry originals with sharp, detailed alternatives. Lighting is completely reworked with realistic global illumination, proper shadow rendering at all times of day, and dramatically improved night lighting with realistic neon reflections and headlight illumination. Water surfaces feature realistic wave patterns, reflections, and subsurface color that changes based on depth and weather conditions.
Weather & Atmosphere
Every weather preset is redesigned from scratch. Thunderstorms are dramatic with proper lightning illumination, heavy rain creates visible water accumulation on surfaces, and fog rolls through the hills of Blaine County with realistic density gradients. The sky box textures are replaced with higher-resolution alternatives, and sunsets produce stunning color gradients across the entire horizon.
Gameplay Changes
Beyond visuals, Redux modifies core gameplay mechanics. Vehicle handling is rebalanced for more realistic physics — cars feel heavier and more grounded, with appropriate body roll and tire grip. Weapon behavior is adjusted with realistic recoil patterns, bullet drop, and damage values. Police AI is overhauled to be more challenging and realistic, with smarter pursuit tactics and proper escalation responses. Pedestrian behavior is also enhanced with more varied reactions and routines.
Installation
GTA 5 Redux uses the OpenIV Package Installer (.oiv format) for streamlined installation. Before installing, ensure you have OpenIV installed and have created a mods folder. The installer will place all modified files in the correct locations within your mods folder, preserving the original game files for easy removal. A custom gameconfig, Heap Adjuster, and Packfile Limit Adjuster are strongly recommended for stable performance.
System Requirements
Due to the extensive texture replacements and rendering changes, Redux demands more from your hardware than vanilla GTA 5. A minimum of 8GB VRAM (RTX 3070 or equivalent) is recommended for 1080p, with 12GB+ VRAM preferred for 1440p or 4K resolution. 16GB system RAM is the minimum, with 32GB recommended for the smoothest experience alongside other mods.
